TCQ - Thanet Clarinet Quartet

Thanet Clarinet Quartet

Thanet Clarinet Quartet was formed in around 2001 from a group of players who were meeting regularly through playing in local concert bands. They met to explore the wide repertoire of clarinet quartet music but also to contribute live music to the intended development of Margate Old Town as a cultural quarter.

The line-up of players remains the same with Mary Macleod leading, Linda Buckley and David Nelson supplying the inner parts and Colin Bridge on bass clarinet. All the players have many years' experience of professional playing and teaching.

Apart from providing incidental music and concerts over many years for events and venues in Margate Old Town, including art galleries, the museum and the Tudor House, the quartet has played, often many times, at the Westgate Pavilion, Quex Park, Walpole Bay Hotel, Drapers Mill, and churches in Broadstairs, Westgate, Folkestone and Birchington. They are currently the resident group in the regular concert season, now in its fourth year, at the Minnis Bay URC Church.

Programmes range across the whole spectrum of music from Tudor, Baroque and Classical, to Ragtime, ballads and striking contemporary music. They play concerts, provide incidental music, offer special Christmas programmes and ‘A Margate Tapestry’, a unique light-hearted look at local history and heritage in words and music. The focus is on good tunes with a touch of swing, with music that is memorable but easy on the ear.
